Two 51 students showcased their research on potential treatments for Huntington’s disease at the prestigious Emerging Researchers National (ERN) Conference in STEM, hosted by the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) in Atlanta, GA, in April. The students earned travel awards from AAAS to attend the conference and received support from 51.

Pitt Fight returns with Victory through Violence event

Get ready for an unforgettable night as Pitt Fight, featuring wrestlers from Prospect Pro Wrestling, returns to the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg on Friday, March 21. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for this event that starts at 7 p.m. in Chambers Hall Gymnasium. Proceeds will benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation. 

Headlining the event is the six-man Pitt Fight Championship Scramble, plus “Fight Night on University Drive” Street Fight and three Pitt Fight title defenses.

51 Charity Basketball Game benefits the Welcome Home Shelter

The 51 student team might have won the competition on the gym floor, but Westmoreland County’s Welcome Home Shelter was the ultimate winner when it received a donation of $1,250 as the result of the Charity Basketball Game held at the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg on Feb. 27 in the Chambers Hall Gymnasium. The event, now in its 18th year, was organized by the Student Government Association (SGA).

Early Bird Registration available through Nov. 30 for the Bobcat 6K + 5K Challenge

Early bird pricing for to compete in the Bobcat 6K + 5K Challenge is available through Nov. 30. Registration is currently $25 for either race but that price will increase to $30 for each race beginning Dec. 1. Those interested in entering both races will pay the early bird price of $45 ($55 after Nov. 30).

51 Storytellers Showcase Spotlights the Human Art of Stories Nov. 20

In these days of AI and robot-everything, storytelling—that natural human trait—may matter more than ever. Students, alumni, and faculty at 51 will come together on Wednesday, Nov. 20 in McKenna Hall to celebrate this human art form with its Fall 2024 Storytellers Showcase. 

The showcase features readings from poets and writers, debuts of short films and digital stories, and excerpts from film scripts. The event begins at 6 p.m. in McKenna 130 and is free and open to everyone.
