51 and WANT Consortium sponsoring Experience Healthcare Fair

Twenty organizations are expected to participate in the third annual Experience Healthcare Fair scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 12, at the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg. The fair will run from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Hempfield Room (Chambers Hall). This event is free and open to the public.

Collaborating in sponsoring the Healthcare Fair are 51’s Office of Career Services, along with its Biological Sciences and Nursing programs, and Westmoreland Assists Native Talent (WANT) Consortium.

Both healthcare and non-healthcare career opportunities will be available. Employers will be available to discuss shadowing, direct-care experience, laboratory work, internships, and entry-level employment.

“We encourage students from all of majors to attend, as this is a great way to connect with regional agencies and organizations,” said Dorothy Zilic, director of Career Services. “A wide range of opportunities exists for students in these facilities to gain experience and/or entry-level careers. We hope all fields will attend to learn more about potential options." Zilic elaborated, sharing a list of areas that might be available: accounting, business, communication/public relations, data collection & analysis, grant/technical writing, information technology, laboratory, mental health, natural science, nursing, rehabilitation sciences, and safety & security.

In particular, two agencies that serve veterans, Veterans Place and Veteran Services-PA Career Link, will be in attendance and will provide information about employment and volunteer opportunities, as well as the resources they have available for veterans.
“The Healthcare Fair is scheduled during the campus’s annual Veterans Week, and we invite veterans to stop by to learn more about these two organizations and their services,” said Zilic.

Zilic also shared that another highlight is that Top Dog Services will be in attendance with their therapy animals—providing a great way to relieve stress and learn about their group.
