The University of Pittsburgh launches tuition-free initiative for Pennsylvania residents at regional campuses

The University of Pittsburgh today announced the launch of The Pitt Regional Campus Tuition Pledge, tuition-free program beginning fall 2026 for eligible Pennsylvania residents at its Bradford, Greensburg and Johnstown campuses, as well as the Titusville nursing program. New and current students whose household Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) is $75,000 or less will pay zero in tuition — Pitt covers whatever tuition remains after all federal, state and institutional aid has been applied.

“TPitt Regional CampusTuition Pledgereflects our deep commitment tothe students attending our regional campuses, said Chancellor Joan Gabel. Students in Bradford, Greensburg, Johnstown, Titusville and across Pennsylvania deserve affordable access to a University of Pittsburgh education, and this program is our direct investment in making that a reality while strengthening the communities our regional campuses serve.

About the pledge

Beginning in fall 2026, Pennsylvania residents — both new and currently enrolled students — whose household AGI is $75,000 or less will be eligible to attend Pitt’s Bradford,Greensburg and Johnstown campuses as well as the Titusville nursing program tuition-free.

The program works as a last-dollar benefit: all federal, state and institutional aid is applied first, and Pitt covers whatever tuition balanceremains. The result is $0 tuition for every eligible student, regardless of how much other aid they receiveand regardless of their path to enrollment at the regional campus, including current students, new first-year students, as well as new and existing transfer students. The tuition pledge does not cover textbooks, housing and meals, or other fees.

No separate application is required. Students simply file the FAFSA each year, and if they qualify, the benefit is applied to their account automatically.

Why it matters

Pitt’s regional campuses serve students across western and central Pennsylvania, many of whom are first-generation college students, Pell Grant recipients and community members with deep ties to their regions. The Pitt Regional Campus Tuition Pledge is designed to meet these students where they are — combining the value of a full Pitt education close to home with the financial certainty needed to start and complete a degree.

The program directly addresses our commitment to access and affordability, which are institutional priorities spelled out in the Plan for Pitt, and builds on existing initiatives such as and the (PRSSIM) Project.

“A university education can have a life-changing impact,” said Provost and Senior Vice Chancellor Joseph J. McCarthy. “Expanding access to an affordable, high-quality education remains a central strategic priority for the University. The Pitt Regional Campus Tuition Pledge reflects our sustained commitment to opening doors of opportunity and supporting student success across our communities.”
